Specialists in ethical hacking, along with Free Software Foundation, sent an application to the company to ask for a relaunch of Windows 7 as an open code software
On a statement, Free Software Foundation said: “For 10 years, Microsoft invaded the privacy of the users and corrupted the education with this OS. Stop giving support to Windows 7 is the easiest way for Microsoft to eliminate the evidence of past errors”.
The experts mention that this is the perfect oportunity for the ethical hacking and cybersecurity community study and find the better ways to improve the capacities of the OS.
The foundation expects to gather at least 7.700 signatures to present a solid case to Microsoft. The moment this article was written, the platform had already gathered 7634 signatures, so the next step could be at hand.
Although the free support for windows 7 is over, Microsoft pointed that they will give 3 years of use to the people and companies that still want to use this OS, which is highly probable, so Microsoft will not stop of taking davance of Windows 7 to generate an important amount of money.
According to the specialists in ethical hacking of the International Institute of Cyber Security (IICS), the german government is one the institutions that will pay for the possibility of using this system for more time. As mentioned, the agreement goes for more than 850 thousands of dollars to receive extended security updates of windows 7 during 2020.
It is worth mentioning, that Microsoft still has commercial memories that involves aditional updates for Windows 7, it is highly possible that the request of Free Software Foundation is rejected. Although that the company has receive multiple questions related to this, there is not an official posture.
